Circle
North CDC Breaks New Ground - Earning NAEYC Accreditation Award
Parent/Child
Incorporated’s Circle North Head Start/Early Head Start
Center recently became one of the first programs in the country
to be awarded the mark of quality represented by the reinvented
National Association for the Education of Young Children
(NAEYC) Accreditation system.
The Circle North Center joins PCI’s Fort Sam and New
Westwood Centers as three (3) of three hundred fifty-six
(356) quality programs in the State of Texas successfully
meeting requirements for NAEYC accreditation since 2003.
The accreditation is valid for a period of five years, during
which time the program must maintain compliance with the
NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and Accreditation
Criteria
In the Accreditation Decision Report, NAEYC Director of
Accreditation Decisions, Stephanie Olmore, complimented Joann
Ross, Education Center Coordinator and the staff of the Circle
North center, highlighting the following qualities that earned
Circle North the distinguished award:
- Promoting positive relationships among all children and
adults to encouraging each child and family member’s
sense of individual worth and belonging as part of a community.
- Implementing a curriculum consistent with its goals for
children and promoting learning and development in the
areas: social, emotional, physical, language and cognitive.
- The use of developmentally, culturally and linguistically
appropriate and effective teaching approaches that enhance
each child’s learning and development in the context
of the program’s curriculum goals.
- Using ongoing, systematic, formal and informal assessment
approaches to provide information on children’s learning
and development.
- Promoting the nutrition and health of children and protecting
children and staff from illness and injury.
- Employing and supporting a teaching staff that has the
educational qualifications, knowledge, and professional
commitment necessary to promote children’s learning
and development and to support families’ diverse
needs and interests.
- Recognizing the importance of a reciprocal relationship
between families and programs is essential to ensure that
programs are meeting the needs of the children and families
that the program serves.
- Effectively establishing and maintaining reciprocal relationships
with agencies and institutions that can support it in achieving
its goals for the curriculum, health promotion, children’s
transitions, inclusion, and diversity.
- Creating an environment, both indoors and outdoors that
fosters the growth and development of the children.
- Administering a program efficiently and effectively,
ensuring that all staff, children, and families are included.
The way in which a program is administered affects all
of the interactions within the program.
Parent/Child Incorporated’s education professionals
look forward to working together with NAEYC in order to build
public recognition and support for NAEYC Accreditation, the
mark of quality in early childhood education. Through this
process of continuous improvement, PCI will continue to enhance
the lives of children and families throughout San Antonio
and Bexar County. |

Fort Sam
Center Honors Military Parents For Armed Forces Day
To the patriotic refrains of “Born In The USA”,
the children, parents and staff at the Parent/Child Incorporated
Fort Sam Child Development Center honored America’s
men and women in the armed forces with pageantry and song
on Friday, May 16 at their center site located on the grounds
of historic Fort Sam Houston.
Mistress
Of Ceremonies, Mrs. Mary Pritchard-Doxie, PCI Early
Head Start Director, presided as the children of
Fort Sam paraded to the music and each class chanted
their support for the troops from each branch of
the military.
The children and staff of the Fort Sam center worked
very hard to make the 23 military parents in attendance
feel very appreciated and honored. PCI is equally
honored to have the opportunity to provide quality
comprehensive early childhood development services
to the children and families of the armed forces
stationed in San Antonio.

PCI
adds to its Transportation Fleet
Numerous studies of the safety of school
transportation have been conducted over the past several
decades by the most respected safety organizations in the
United States. All
of the studies come to the same indisputable conclusion – school
buses provide the safest transportation on the Nation’s
highways.
In keeping with the
results of those studies, PCI continues to promote its
committment to quality and safe transportaton for its
Head Start children with the purchase of a new School
Bus (as seen below) to add to its current
fleet of transportaton modes.

PCI
Lauds First Ever Head Start/Early Head Start Teachers Of
The Year
Teachers
are a critical component in ensuring the highest quality
education for our youngest learners and are the most important
and influential part of Head Start. They have the most
interaction with the children, and they see the child progress
through
each lesson taught and have the ability to bring our children
to
the level that they need to be before heading to elementary
school.
Since teachers have such a significant role in the development
of
each child enrolled in Head Start, Parent/Child Incorporated
wanted them to know how important they are and hosted its
first-ever Head Start/Early Head Start Teacher of the Year
Recognition
Awards on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 in the Head Start
Operations Building. Mr. James Keith, Anchor/Reporter for
KABB News at Nine served as the Master of Ceremonies.

awarded the first ever Parent/Child
Incorporated Teacher of the Year Awards for Head
Start and Early Head Start
|
This was one of the most exciting and rewarding events as PCI honored
each teacher nominated from every Head Start Center! Through a
selection process, two (2) exemplary teachers were announced as
the Head Start and Early Head Start Teacher of the Year for School
Year 2007-2008. The honors went to Rosio Romero of New Westwood
Early Head Start Center and Dina Castillo of Imperial Head Start
Center. Each teacher received a digital camera with printer and
a $125.00 gift card.
We offer our congratulations to all of the teachers that were nominated. |
