Balloons flying, children laughing, motorcycles revving and parents learning were all key ingredients of Parent/Child Incorporated’s 2008-09 Recruitment Campaign Kickoff held Saturday, March 8 at PCI’s Brady Head Start Operations site in San Antonio.

PCI staff joined representatives from 20 community service agencies from throughout Bexar County to provide valuable information on the full range of services available to families and children in San Antonio.

Participating PCI community partners included Food Bank of San Antonio, WIC, Medicaid, CHIPS, New York Life Financial, Alamo Community Colleges, Alamo Community College District, Westside Community Education Centers, SAC-Seguir Adelante, VITA, Citi Bank, Komen Breast Cancer, Project Quest, Precious Minds, San Antonio Alternative Housing Corporation, East Sub-Division Police Unit, UTHSC- Dental Hygiene, Consumer Credit Council and the Guardians of Children Motorcycle Club.

PCI Family Service Workers were available at the Brady location and at each PCI center throughout San Antonio and Bexar County to greet interested parents and help complete new enrollee applications for PCI’s Head Start School Year 2008-2009.

State Senator Carlos Ureste joined in the festivities as he led PCI volunteers on a Blue Ribbon Task Force Block Walk in the 78207 zip code area.

Senator Ureste leads this continuing effort to prevent child abuse and neglect in San Antonio by making direct contact with families, sharing parenting tips and information in an effort to strengthen families and bring greater awareness of the Child Abuse Parent Support Number 211.

PCI’s full recruitment effort is now underway and will continue to register families with children ages 3 years of age to compulsory entrance to public school that meet the eligibility criteria.

We encourage everyone to assist this effort by spreading the word to family and friends with children ages 3 and 4 to become part of the Head Start experience by asking them to call 475-5077, visit our website www.parentchildinc.com, or simply stop by the nearest PCI child development center to place their child on the waiting list.
